The UN is not just dysfunctional - it's a criminal enterprise

The UN is not just dysfunctional -

it's a criminal enterprise

It gives validity to zealots and bigots, a voice to international terrorists, and helps to keep tyrannical dictators in power.

CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND -- It is reasonable that honest, compassionate people seek a means for governments to air their differences.

It is also reasonable that honest, compassionate people should desire some way to voluntarily pool resources to provide charitable aid to those who are starving or are victims of natural disaster. Indeed, this is the image of the United Nations that has been sold to the world since its inception.

It is not, however, the reality.

The UN gives validity to zealots and bigots. It helps to keep tyrannical dictators in power. It gives a voice to international terrorists.

Delay. Negotiate. Recommend. Study. Reconsider. Do nothing. This is the game the UN has played in nearly every international crisis. It is the reason North Korea remains a threat after 50 years. And it is the reason why a terrorist nation such as Syria can be given a seat on the UN's Human Rights Council.

The UN is buried under scandals. It has Oil-for-Food scandals. Smuggling scandals. And theft scandals.

UN peacekeeping missions - with their record of rob, rape, and pillage - can actually bring fear to the local citizens they are supposed to protect.

Who has the power to oversee and control its actions? The people don't vote on UN actions. The media has little access behind the scenes. Who audits the accounting books?

UN supporters admit such problems, and they call for "reform." But to them, reform doesn't mean plugging holes in UN spending or clearing up scandals. Instead, it means global governance.

Since its inception, the UN's advocacy has amounted to a desire to eradicate the sovereignty of nations - while imposing what it calls "world-mindedness."

A 1949 UNESCO document said, "...nationalism [is] the major obstacle to the development of world-mindedness."

Therein lies the UN's true goal. And that belies its public image of being simply a place where nations may come to air their differences and act responsibly.

Instead, the UN works to gain power for itself in order to become independent and supreme over its member nations.

To do that, it needs the power to tax. On Sept. 19, plans were approved by several nations to create a global tax, mostly through airline tickets to help pay for the treatment of AIDS. There are several other tax schemes on the UN wish list. If the UN gains the power to tax, it will become a monster free of its chains. And, of course, the UN wants its own military. It already has its own court.

Imagine a world run by the justice of China, with the economics of Cuba, and the military might of the United States. Such is the world of the future under UN global governance.

A glance at recent history shows that the UN is irrelevant as a body to deliver world peace.

Using images of dire environmental emergencies, life-threatening diseases, or starving children, the UN promotes an agenda that seeks to redistribute the world's wealth.

Nowhere is there mentioned in a single UN document that I have read an advocacy for the right to own private property. And it is a fact that the inability to own private property creates poverty. It is also a fact that confiscation of private property never helps to eradicate poverty.

It is bad economic policy. Yet that is the UN's only solution to the massive suffering throughout the world. Take it from one source to give to another. And that, I contend, is the very root of the suffering - not the solution.

The UN is not "dysfunctional" as some "reformists" have claimed. It is a criminal enterprise in which no moral nation should ever participate, let alone perpetuate.

The Dirty Dozen: America’s Most Bizarre and Politically Correct College Courses

Occidental College’s The Phallus ranked the most bizarre class of ’06 -’07

HERNDON, VA -- As college costs soar through the roof -- averaging above $31,000 a year for tuition, room & board -- today’s college students study adultery, the male genital, and Native American feminism. The Dirty Dozen highlights the most bizarre and troubling instances of leftist activism supplanting traditional scholarship in our nation’s colleges and universities.

The growth of these courses gobbles up tons of money and resources and ignores scholarship from conservatives. For instance, books and speeches from the late Milton Friedman and Ambassador Jean Kirkpatrick are rarely studied in the classroom, yet leftist works are prevalent in college classrooms nationwide. Scores of courses were researched from hundreds of the nation’s leading schools. The Dirty Dozen is the worst of the worst. This year, we have also included a dishonorable mentions category -- courses that could’ve easily made the list.

When one examines these classes, keep in mind that a recent study found that only one in four Americans can name more than one of the five freedoms protected by the First Amendment, but more than half can name at least two family members of “The Simpsons.” The Washington Post reports that only 31 percent of college grads could read and comprehend complex books, while The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that 40 percent of college students need remedial work in math and English. Are we really putting our educational resources to the best use?

Young America’s Foundation Spokesman Jason Mattera remarks, “The Dirty Dozen demonstrates that professors still have an obsession with dividing people on the basis of their skin color, sexuality, and gender. They also can’t seem to shake off a strong admiration for Karl Marx and his murderous ideology -- apparently the 100-plus million totalitarian regimes have murdered over the years is not enough?!”

1. Occidental College’s The Phallus covers a broad study on the relation “between the phallus and the penis, the meaning of the phallus, phallologocentrism, the lesbian phallus, the Jewish phallus, the Latino phallus, and the relation of the phallus and fetishism.”

2. Queer Musicology at the University of California-Los Angeles explores how “sexual difference and complex gender identities in music and among musicians have incited productive consternation” during the 1990s. Music under consideration includes works by Schubert and Holly Near, Britten and Cole Porter, and Pussy Tourette.

3. Amherst College in Massachusetts offers Taking Marx Seriously: “Should Marx be given another chance?” Students in this class are asked to question if Marxism still has “credibility,” while also inquiring if societies can gain new insights by “returning to [Marx’s] texts.” Coming to Marx’s rescue, this course also states that Lenin, Stalin, and Pol Pot misapplied the concepts of Marxism.

4. Students enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania’s Adultery Novel read a series of 19th and 20th century works about “adultery” and watch “several adultery films.”  Students apply “various critical approaches in order to place adultery into its aesthetic, social and cultural context, including: sociological descriptions of modernity, Marxist examinations of family as a social and economic institution” and “feminist work on the construction of gender.”

5. Occidental College -- making the list twice for the second year in a row -- offers Blackness, which elaborates on a “new blackness,” “critical blackness,” “post-blackness,” and an “unforgivable blackness,” which all combine to create a “feminist New Black Man.”

6. Border Crossings, Borderlands: Transnational Feminist Perspectives on Immigration is University of Washington’s way of exploring the immigration debate. The class allegedly unearths what is “highlighted and concealed in contemporary public debates about U.S. immigration” policy.

7. Whiteness: The Other Side of Racism is Mount Holyoke College’s attempt to analyze race. The class seeks to spark thought on: “What is whiteness?” “How is it related to racism?” “What are the legal frameworks of whiteness?” “How is whiteness enacted in everyday practice?” And how does whiteness impact the “lives of whites and people of color?

8. Native American Feminisms at the University of Michigan looks at the development of “Native feminist thought” and its “relationship both to Native land-based struggles and non-Native feminist movements.”

9. Johns Hopkins University offers Mail Order Brides: Understanding the Philippines in Southeast Asian Context, which is a supposedly deep look into Filipino kinship and gender.

10. Cornell University’s Cyberfeminism investigates “the emergence of cyberfeminism in theory and art in the context of feminism/post feminism and the accelerated technological developments of the last thirty years of the twentieth century.”

11. Duke University’s American Dreams/American Realities course seeks to unearth “such myths as ‘rags to riches,’ ‘beacon to the world,’ and the ‘frontier,’ in defining the American character.”

12. Swarthmore College’s Nonviolent Responses to Terrorism “deconstruct[s] terrorism” and “build[s] on promising nonviolent procedures to combat today’s terrorism.” The “non-violent” struggle Blacks pursued in the 1960s is outlined as a mode for tackling today’s terrorism.

Dishonorable Mentions

• UC-Berkeley’s Sex Change City: Theorizing History in Genderqueer San Francisco explores “implications of U.S. imperialism and colonization for the construction of gender in 19th-century San Francisco’s multicultural, multiracial, and multiethnic” community. The course also covers “contemporary transgender, queer, genderqueer, and post-queer cultural production and politics” and “the regulation of gender-variant practices in public space by San Francisco’s Anglo-European elites.”

• Cornell University’s Sex, Rugs, Salt, & Coal asks students to ponder the questions: Why are “oriental” rugs collector’s items? How did we come to keep salt shakers on our dinner tables? When did coal start replacing wood as a fuel source?

• Hollins University’s Drag: Theories of Transgenderism and Performance analyzes historical, theoretical, and autobiographical perspectives on drag, including transgenderism and performance in non-Western cultures.

• University of Colorado-Boulder’s Introduction to Lesbian, Bisexual, and Gay Literature introduces some of the forms, concerns, and genres of contemporary lesbian, bisexual, and gay writing in English.

• Swarthmore College’s Peace Study in Action partners students with a local “peace” organization “to study its mode of action and develop a document or brief that brings useful peace research to the service of the organization.”

• Swarthmore College’s Renaissance Sexualities explores the homoerotic, chastity and friendship, marriage, adultery, and incest.

• Oberlin College’s first-year seminar, She Works Hard for the Money: Women, Work and the Persistence of Inequality, “tackles” price differences, occupational segregation, comparable worth, and other factors that supposedly uncover institutional discrimination against women.

• Hollins University’s Lesbian Pulp Fiction examines “a literary genre that critics once deemed ‘trash’ and moralists commonly found ‘scandalous,’ but that formed a crucial part in the burgeoning canon of queer literature.”

With all those wondeful courses out there I guess kids are just wasting their time with stuff like math and engineering. How on *Earth* is anyone paid a six-figure salary to spew this utter nonsense?!?!!

When Apollo 11 had a problem heading to the moon our engineers calculated almost to the minute the amount of oxygen necessary to bring the astronauts home with a friggin slide rule. I wouldn't trust today's kids with calculating the amount of change due back to me on a 3.52 meal at Burger King if I gave him or her 4.02! That's the sorry-ass state of our education today.

Miss Nevada fired after racy photos go public

A Miss USA contestant has been stripped of her title after racy photos of her were made public.

Some of the images of Katie Rees were posted on canada.com Wednesday evening, sparking headlines all over North America and prompting pagent officials to investigate.

“Katie Rees has been relieved of her duties as Miss Nevada USA 2007,” said Paula M. Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, which owns the Miss USA pageant, according to the Associated Press.

First runner-up Helen Salas will assume the title and compete at the 2007 Miss USA pageant on March 23 in Los Angeles.

The shocking photos came hot on the fashionable heels of a scandal that rocked reigning Miss USA Tara Conner.

The raunchy pics show Rees exposing her breasts, passionately kissing other young women, and simulating oral sex with females and a male.

Click here to see some of the photos. Discretion is advised.

"The pictures were disgusting," Miss USA co-owner Donald Trump told Larry King on CNN Thursday night. "These pictures were pretty far out there and that is not representative of Miss USA. We had no choice but to terminate her."

On Tuesday, Trump announced that hard-partying Conner -- accused of underage drinking, drug use and promiscuous behaviour -- was going to enter rehab but will keep her title.

Rees, 22, was crowned Miss Nevada in Las Vegas in October and was due to represent the state in the Miss USA pageant next spring.

Earlier this month, Rees was the guest of honour at a Special Olympics bowling tournament and last month attended an event for underprivileged children.

But Rees showed off a much wilder side in the pictures, taken during a party in Tampa, Florida before she was crowned Miss Nevada.

US 'suburbs more violent than Iraq'

MORE fighting goes on in parts of suburban US than Iraq, according to Australian filmmaker George Gittoes who has just finished a documentary set in a Miami "war zone".

Gittoes' latest feature, Rampage, contrasts life for a family living in the blue-collar community of Brown Sub, Miami, with ongoing fighting in Iraq.

"It is much worse in Miami than it is in Baghdad," Gittoes said in Sydney today.

"There is a sense of people with guns, drug dealers lairing at you ... and being there, I knew I was in a war zone."

Rampage is the second in Gittoes trilogy of documentaries based on the war in Iraq.

It follows the success of 2004s Soundtrack to War, which depicted American soldiers and their music in Iraq.

The film will be released in cinemas around the world and Gittoes is expecting plenty of controversy.

"Even left-wing Americans ... don't want to recognise the mess they've got in their own backyard," he said.

Gittoes has spent much of his career travelling the world, painting, filming and photographing wars in places such as Rwanda, Afghanistan, and East Timor.

"To me, this was just another war zone and it was in America," he said.

Gittoes said there were similar stories to Rampage in Australia's indigenous communities, although he said the task of translating that on the big screen would be difficult.

"The film that I'd like to make in Australia I couldn't make," he said.

"All of our politically correct laws and things wouldn't let someone like me make a film like this in an Aboriginal community in Australia."

The final film in the trilogy, Fearless, and will examine the impact of the Iraq war on the American soldiers who have fought there.

"It is about the difficulty of exit and how much the soldiers have changed and become hardened warriors and how much the people they're fighting have changed as well," he said.

Rampage opens nationally on November 30.

A liar, purgor, and a thief high in the Clintax administration?
NO WAY

Report Says Berger Hid Archive Documents

WASHINGTON -- President Clinton's national security adviser removed classified documents from the National Archives, hid them under a construction trailer and later tried to find the trash collector to retrieve them, the agency's internal watchdog said Wednesday.

The report was issued more than a year after Sandy Berger pleaded guilty and received a criminal sentence for removing the documents.

Berger took the documents in the fall of 2003 while working to prepare himself and Clinton administration witnesses for testimony to the Sept. 11 commission. Berger was authorized as the Clinton administration's representative to make sure the commission got the correct classified materials.

Berger's lawyer, Lanny Breuer, said in a statement that the contents of all the documents exist today and were made available to the commission.

But Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., outgoing chairman of the House Government Reform Committee, said he's not convinced that the Archives can account for all the documents taken by Berger. Davis said working papers of National Security Council staff members are not inventoried by the Archives.

"There is absolutely no way to determine if Berger swiped any of these original documents. Consequently, there is no way to ever know if the 9/11 Commission received all required materials," Davis said.

Berger pleaded guilty to unlawfully removing and retaining classified documents. He was fined $50,000, ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and was barred from access to classified material for three years.

Inspector General Paul Brachfeld reported that National Archives employees spotted Berger bending down and fiddling with something white around his ankles.

The employees did not feel at the time there was enough information to confront someone of Berger's stature, the report said.

Later, when Berger was confronted by Archives officials about the missing documents, he lied by saying he did not take them, the report said.

Brachfeld's report included an investigator's notes, taken during an interview with Berger. The notes dramatically described Berger's removal of documents during an Oct. 2, 2003, visit to the Archives.

Berger took a break to go outside without an escort while it was dark. He had taken four documents in his pockets.

"He headed toward a construction area. ... Mr. Berger looked up and down the street, up into the windows of the Archives and the DOJ (Department of Justice), and did not see anyone," the interview notes said.

He then slid the documents under a construction trailer, according to the inspector general. Berger acknowledged that he later retrieved the documents from the construction area and returned with them to his office.

"He was aware of the risk he was taking," the inspector general's notes said. Berger then returned to the Archives building without fearing the documents would slip out of his pockets or that staff would notice that his pockets were bulging.

The notes said Berger had not been aware that Archives staff had been tracking the documents he was provided because of earlier suspicions from previous visits that he was removing materials. Also, the employees had made copies of some documents.

In October 2003, the report said, an Archives official called Berger to discuss missing documents from his visit two days earlier. The investigator's notes said, "Mr. Berger panicked because he realized he was caught."

The notes said that Berger had "destroyed, cut into small pieces, three of the four documents. These were put in the trash."

After the trash had been picked up, Berger "tried to find the trash collector but had no luck," the notes said.

Significant portions of the inspector general's report were redacted to protect privacy or national security.

Mohammed overtakes George in list of most popular names

Mohammed, and its most common alternative spelling Muhammad, are now more popular babies' names in England and Wales than George, reflecting the diverse ethnic mix of the population.

The Office for National Statistics said there were 2,833 baby boys called Mohammed in 2006.

The name is 22nd in the list of most popular boys' names, moving up a place from last year.

Spelled Muhammad, it is the 44th most popular name and enters the top 50 for the first time along with Noah, Oscar, Lucas and Rhys.

There were 2,833 babies called Mohammed born in 2006 and 1,422 called Muhammad. The total exceeds the number of Georges (3,386) or Josephs (3,755).

The list of popular babies' names for 2006 also shows that the cult of celebrity is changing the baptismal tide.

There were 38 babies called Cruz (after David Beckham's third child) this year, raising the name from 1,508th to 650th. There were 14 Peaches (after the daughter of Bob Geldof), raising that name from 4,509th to 1,561st.

Jack has been the top boys' name for 12 years but Olivia has risen three places from last year. Last year's top girl's name, Jessica, dropped to number three, There are just three new names in the top 50 girls' names list - Imogen, Sophia and Anna.

The ONS said some of the girls' names gaining the most popularity this year were Evie (21), Freya (23), Poppy (30) and Jasmine (31).

As usual, the boys' top 50 is more stable, but Harrison jumped six places to number 36. Alfie, Cameron and Henry all rose five places to numbers 16, 30 and 39 respectively.

Santa Hat-Wearing Bus Driver Allowed to Keep Job

A Santa hat-wearing school bus driver on Long Island, N.Y., has won the right to keep wearing his festive headgear, Newsday reported.

Kenneth Mott, who keeps a long, white beard, almost lost his job after a parent called the bus management to complain. Mott, who has worn the red and white hat every Christmas since he started with the Bauman & Sons bus company five years ago, was ordered to stop wearing the hat because a child didn't believe in Santa Claus and was bothered by the hat.

"I said, 'What, are you kidding me?'" Mott recalled. "I thought it was a big joke," Newsday reported.

However, after Mott told other parents he might be fired for wearing the hat, supervisors changed their stance and said he could continue to wear the hat.

'Santa Claus does not exist' school tells stunned kids

A primary school has been accused of spoiling Christmas for pupils after a lesson telling them that Santa Claus does not exist.

Children as young as nine were told that only 'small children believe in Father Christmas'.

And yesterday their parents criticised teachers for taking the 'magic' out of the festive period.

The blunder came after the Year 5 pupils were given seasonal worksheets containing various festive classroom exercises.

One began by informing the children that 'many small children believe in Father Christmas'.

It then went on to explain that thousands of letters sent by these children to Santa every year are actually answered by the Post Office.

The youngsters were then asked to write a pretend letter from the Post Office to a child explaining why their requests for presents had been refused.

Now Ladysmith Junior School in Exeter, Devon, is accused of taking a decision that should have been made by the parents themselves.

One father-of-two, who asked not to be named, said: "My wife and I make a special effort to keep the belief in Santa in our daughter's mind as we believe it adds to the magic of Christmas for her and her four-year-old brother.

"We even recall her shaking with excitement some years ago when sat at the bottom of our bed rummaging through her stocking.

"What gives the school the right to decide when children should know the truth about such a harmless matter when knowing the truth does take away that little bit of magic?"

"She'll probably figure it out soon enough anyway, but we might have had one last Christmas without her knowing if it hadn't been for the school."

Yesterday the headmistress of the 460-pupil school said she had written to families to apologise and assured them the lesson will not be taught again.

Jackie Jackson said: "Having three children myself, I understand how parents feel.

"The last thing we wanted to do was take away the positive and magical side of Christmas and I have wished all the families a happy time."

She continued: "We can't go back and undo this but I have written to all the families to apologise. It was very unfortunate and a bad mistake. We are not in the business of shattering children's dreams."

Yesterday a spokesman for the Royal Mail confirmed it receives around 750,000 letters for Father Christmas from children around the UK every year.

He said: "They are all forwarded to Santa and we also send a special reply."

The worksheet was taken from the Internet and created by educational charity, the Hamilton Trust.

Yesterday the trust's director Ruth Merttens, defended the content.

She said: "I feel sorry for the teacher concerned.

"But we produce the worksheets and it is up to teachers how they use them in class."

She added: "I don't want to upset anybody but I would say by the age of ten it seems unlikely that a child wouldn't be aware of Santa's imaginary nature."

Last week a primary school teacher was sacked for telling her young class that Santa does not exist.

The supply teacher apparently decided the pupils - some as young as nine - were too old to believe in Father Christmas.

The teacher, who has not been named, is believed to have told the class at Boldmere Junior School, in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands: "All of you are old enough to know there is no Father Christmas or fairies.

If you ask your parents to tell you they will say there is no such thing.

Amanda Piovesana, whose daughter is in Year 5, said: "I am upset because it has taken away a magical part of Christmas for my daughter and a teacher should not have the right to do that. My little girl was very upset."

At yet another school, pupils went home in tears after being told Father Christmas does not exist by a teacher who was telling a class of nine-year-olds how Christmas is celebrated across the world.

Angry parents at Calcot Junior School in Berkshire said the teacher had 'ruined' Christmas for their children.

Mel Barefield, whose son was in the lesson, said: 'The teacher had said to them that Father Christmas wasn't real, Rudolph was a cartoon character and that Christmas trees come from Germany.'

A governor said: 'It's not just Father Christmas that's the problem. We also have issues with things like the Tooth Fairy.

'From now on when a child asks if Father Christmas exists the teacher should say, "I'm not sure. Go home and ask your parents"'.

Rachel McGauley, 29, whose eight-year-old daughter Shannon is in Year 4 at the school, said: "It is very bad.

"As parents it is for us to decide when we tell our children and some of the parents in that class could have got away with it for another year and now they can't.

"I just hope my little girl does not twig because she is in the year below."

Sam Horne, whose children Keiron, eight, and six-year-old Charlotte attend the school, said: "Mine still believe in Father Christmas, and when I was a kid I did not find out until I was about eleven.

"It is like a loss of innocence. Children should have the right to stay innocent for as long as possible."

In a statement issued through the local Education Authority, Devon County Council, head Mrs Jackie Jackson added: "The choice of this worksheet was a genuine mistake by a teacher which we are all very sad about.

"As a school we delight in the magic of childhood and believe that Christmas is a very special time.

"In the last week the children have been enjoying carol singing and a Christmas fair and, in the true spirit of the season, raising money for children at the Ugandan school which we support.

I have apologised to the parents and this worksheet will never be used in the school again."

Geeze, what a bitch Grinch! Why is it today, that teachers around the world are working so hard to destroy the illusions, and innocence of children?
It's not just the UK, or the US, for that matter, but teachers everywhere seem to be doing it.

Do they really think that they are doing these kids a favor, or an act of kindness? Don't they realize, (probably so), that they are eroding the trust between parent and child?
Do they realize how cruel they are being to little kids? Do they even care? Probably not.

Teachers who do this sort of thing should be sacked, or barring that... transferred to the worst school in their system, and left to sink or swim.

Should have just told them that Christ's Mass is a Christian holiday and that Saint Nicolas doesn't bring gifts to infidel muslims. Then step back and watch the flames.

They are attempting to be the ones that the kids will go to with their problems. The schools are working hard to drive a stake between the kid and his/her parents to secularize them in the long run. The first lie to undermine a kids trust in his parents would be easily the Santa myth as well as the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny.

Once a kid hears that the parents have lied about these things then what else would they lie about? Works well... look at some of the things these mental engineers in the schools are pulling off; death desensitization, parent distrust, use of bullys to keep smarter kids in line, intimidation and emotional stressors in the classroom. When was the last time a kid had the ability to control his or her bladder? Yet teachers feel it's their right to control this child's bladder so that they can control the classroom?

This is bullshit social engineering all the way. And the death class, one of the instructions in the teachers guide was to dim the lights so as to set the mood about the coming discussion. That's absolutely absurd for a 10 year old kid.

Buffalo, New York and Albany, Oregon Dump Libtalk

TWO MORE

Libtalk Dumped In New York, Oregon

In what is now becoming a common occurrence, two additional stations have dumped their liberal talk radio formats, with more rumored to be on the way.

Outlets in Buffalo, New York and Albany / Corvallis, Oregon have dumped lineups that featured "progressive" programming from Air America and elsewhere. Thanks to readers Joe in the Beaver State and Mark in the Empire State for their tips.

In Albany, libtalk was dropped so quickly and quietly last week that few seemed to even notice its demise. Already, KTHH AM 990 "The Truth" is but a memory, with no trace of its former website remaining. It has apparently returned to its previous classic country format.

And in Buffalo, not only has Citadel's WHLD Newstalk 1270 dropped libtalk for gospel music, but the station's manager has warned listeners that he expects rival Entercom's local "progressive" outlet to disappear soon as well. He's urging fans to contact that station's manager to lobby for its continuation:

However there is something you can do to preserve progressive talk in Buffalo. Call Entercom or make an appointment and pay them a visit. Tim Wenger is the GM of WWKB as well as WBEN. Give him a call at 716-843-0600 and let him know how important a progressive talk station is to you. Also let him know what you want on it. I think your input could be very helpful to make KB a station progressives can call their own.

You better act fast though, because rumor has it that they’re going to dump their “progressive line-up” in the very near future. For more contact info click here. Over the last year Entercom, Buffalo has shown their general lack of respect for progressive talk and progressive talk listeners by devoting almost no resources to the station (reportedly they even powered down the station to 10,000 watts to save money). A ton of phone calls and visits could help change that, heck you might even convince them to offer real local shows. It’s not much of a consolation, it’ll never be the Voice of Reason, but it could be better than nothing if you let them know how you feel.

Why a beautiful Christmas awaits girl James Blunt woke from coma

The girl awoken from a coma by the sound of James Blunt's song You're Beautiful is looking forward to this Christmas like no other.

Seven months after fracturing her skull in a fall from a balcony, six-year-old Claudia De'Alwis has made a full recovery.

The youngster delighted doctors and thrilled her parents with the speed and extent of her recovery following the accident in May.

Claudia was in a coma for ten days after fracturing her skull in the fall.

Doctors feared she would not survive. Even if she did, they warned, the severity of her injuries would mean she would be brain damaged or paralysed.

"Claudia is doing really well and it's the best Christmas present we could have ever hoped for," her mother Gaynor Turner yesterday.

"Personality wise we've got our daughter back and she's the same in every way as she was before.

"She knows she nearly died and we are really going to sit down and appreciate how special this Christmas actually is. Claudia has shown me a Red Indian dressing up outfit, a tool bench and monster toys that she wants Santa to bring her."

The little girl, an only child, had been playing on the landing at a friend's house on May 23 when she fell headfirst over the balcony.

She was taken to a hospital near her home in Burnley then moved to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital in Pendlebury, where her mother and her father Paul De'Alwis, 40, remained by her bedside for ten days.

Claudia had shown no signs of movement until James Blunt's song, her favourite, came on the hospital radio.

After that, she rapidly improved, and was discharged at the end of June. She has continued to have therapy session since then.

Miss Turner, 41, said: "Claudia's doctor is really pleased with her progress. She was having therapy for her writing and her right-sided actions, but they've been so pleased with her progress that she's been signed off. Her last occupational therapy session was last week.

"People have come up to us and said they just can't believe how bad it was because of how she is now. She's going swimming and she's started going street dancing. She's doing absolutely fabulous."

Miss Turner, a bank clerk, added: "The MRI scan has revealed there is some permanent damage, but we haven't seen anything and we don't know what that will mean.

"The doctors have said that the brain takes 20 years to develop, so we might not see any changes until she is a teenager.

"Because we don't know what she was going to be like anyway, we just look at it as though she's just on a different path now."

Harrow-educated Blunt has sold more than six million copies of Back to Bedlam, the album from which the hit You're Beautiful was taken.
