Some scientists deny global warming exists

Now Playing: ALL scientists admit there isn't ANY concrete evidence that global warming is man-made

The real deal?

Against the grain: Some scientists deny global warming exists

Astrophysicist Nir Shariv, one of Israel's top young scientists, describes the logic that led him -- and most everyone else -- to conclude that SUVs, coal plants and other things man-made cause global warming.

Step One Scientists for decades have postulated that increases in carbon dioxide and other gases could lead to a greenhouse effect.

Step Two As if on cue, the temperature rose over the course of the 20th century while greenhouse gases proliferated due to human activities.

Step Three No other mechanism explains the warming. Without another candidate, greenhouses gases necessarily became the cause.

Dr. Shariv, a prolific researcher who has made a name for himself assessing the movements of two-billion-year-old meteorites, no longer accepts this logic, or subscribes to these views. He has recanted: "Like many others, I was personally sure that CO2 is the bad culprit in the story of global warming. But after carefully digging into the evidence, I realized that things are far more complicated than the story sold to us by many climate scientists or the stories regurgitated by the media.

"In fact, there is much more than meets the eye."

Dr. Shariv's digging led him to the surprising discovery that there is no concrete evidence -- only speculation -- that man-made greenhouse gases cause global warming. Even research from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change -- the United Nations agency that heads the worldwide effort to combat global warming -- is bereft of anything here inspiring confidence. In fact, according to the IPCC's own findings, man's role is so uncertain that there is a strong possibility that we have been cooling, not warming, the Earth. Unfortunately, our tools are too crude to reveal what man's effect has been in the past, let alone predict how much warming or cooling we might cause in the future.

All we have on which to pin the blame on greenhouse gases, says Dr. Shaviv, is "incriminating circumstantial evidence," which explains why climate scientists speak in terms of finding "evidence of fingerprints." Circumstantial evidence might be a fine basis on which to justify reducing greenhouse gases, he adds, "without other 'suspects.' " However, Dr. Shaviv not only believes there are credible "other suspects," he believes that at least one provides a superior explanation for the 20th century's warming.

"Solar activity can explain a large part of the 20th-century global warming," he states, particularly because of the evidence that has been accumulating over the past decade of the strong relationship that cosmic- ray flux has on our atmosphere. So much evidence has by now been amassed, in fact, that "it is unlikely that [the solar climate link] does not exist."

The sun's strong role indicates that greenhouse gases can't have much of an influence on the climate -- that C02 et al. don't dominate through some kind of leveraging effect that makes them especially potent drivers of climate change. The upshot of the Earth not being unduly sensitive to greenhouse gases is that neither increases nor cutbacks in future C02 emissions will matter much in terms of the climate.

Even doubling the amount of CO2 by 2100, for example, "will not dramatically increase the global temperature," Dr. Shaviv states. Put another way: "Even if we halved the CO2 output, and the CO2 increase by 2100 would be, say, a 50% increase relative to today instead of a doubled amount, the expected reduction in the rise of global temperature would be less than 0.5C. This is not significant."

The evidence from astrophysicists and cosmologists in laboratories around the world, on the other hand, could well be significant. In his study of meteorites, published in the prestigious journal, Physical Review Letters, Dr. Shaviv found that the meteorites that Earth collected during its passage through the arms of the Milky Way sustained up to 10% more cosmic ray damage than others. That kind of cosmic ray variation, Dr. Shaviv believes, could alter global temperatures by as much as 15% --sufficient to turn the ice ages on or off and evidence of the extent to which cosmic forces influence Earth's climate.

In another study, directly relevant to today's climate controversy, Dr. Shaviv reconstructed the temperature on Earth over the past 550 million years to find that cosmic ray flux variations explain more than two-thirds of Earth's temperature variance, making it the most dominant climate driver over geological time scales. The study also found that an upper limit can be placed on the relative role of CO2 as a climate driver, meaning that a large fraction of the global warming witnessed over the past century could not be due to CO2 -- instead it is attributable to the increased solar activity.

CO2 does play a role in climate, Dr. Shaviv believes, but a secondary role, one too small to preoccupy policymakers. Yet Dr. Shaviv also believes fossil fuels should be controlled, not because of their adverse affects on climate but to curb pollution.

"I am therefore in favour of developing cheap alternatives such as solar power, wind, and of course fusion reactors (converting Deuterium into Helium), which we should have in a few decades, but this is an altogether different issue." His conclusion: "I am quite sure Kyoto is not the right way to go."

David Lee Roth back as Van Halen singer

LOS ANGELES -- The rumors were true. Van Halen will reunite with original singer David Lee Roth for a summer tour of North America.

"I am very excited to get back to the core of what made Van Halen," guitarist Eddie Van Halen said in a statement posted Friday on the band's Web site announcing a 40 city tour. No specific dates have been named.

It will be the first time that Roth performs live with the band since 1984, when he was replaced by Sammy Hagar. A brief reunion with Roth in 1996 resulted in two new songs but no tour.

Original bassist Michael Anthony will not be a part of the reunion. Late last year he was replaced by Eddie Van Halen's 15-year-old son Wolfgang.

On March 12 Van Halen will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony in New York.

Man accused of setting bike path traps

LUBBOCK, Texas -- A 62-year-old man is suspected of stringing wires at neck level across a popular bike path, as well as scattering nails, broken glass and rocks across the trail in a series of traps set because he wanted to protect the environment, police said.

"This could kill someone," said Dewayne Wallace, an avid cyclist who said his friend was cut across the neck by one of the wires and was thrown from his bike.

A grand jury was scheduled to review the case next week, to see if the man will face two third-degree felony charges of attempted aggravated assault with a weapon. Each count carries a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Detective Rene Martinez said he questioned the man about the traps set over at least a yearlong period, and the man told him he just wanted to protect wildlife.

"He just loves nature," Martinez said.

Candidates Pick Tunes at DNC Meeting

WASHINGTON -- Everyone needs a soundtrack - even politicians.

The presidential candidates who addressed the Democratic National Committee's winter meeting Friday got to choose their tunes, and it was an eclectic mix that reflected personal favorites and not-so-subtle messages.

Some candidates requested two songs, one that blared as they approached the stage and another that played as they left the podium.

The selections:
• John Edwards: "This Is Our Country" by John Mellencamp.

• Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut: "Get Ready (Cause Here I Come)" by the Temptations and "Reach Out," also by the Temptations.

• Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York: "Right Here, Right Now," by Jesus Jones and "Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

• Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio: "America the Beautiful"

Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois decided against using any music in keeping with the somber tone he sought to convey. Wesley Clark, who hasn't indicated whether he will run, entered to Johnny Cash's "I Won't Back Down."

Bull sperm hair treatment

A hairdresser is offering clients a new conditioning treatment made out of bull's semen.

The 45-minute treatment costs £55 and uses semen from Aberdeen Angus bulls on a farm in Cheshire.

Hari's, in Knightsbridge, London, combines the sperm with the root of protein-rich plant katera, reports Metro.

The mixture is massaged into the client's hair after it has been shampooed. Then the customer is put under a steamer so the treatment penetrates the hair. Finally, it is blow-dried.

Salon owner Hari Salem said: "I have been searching for an organic product with a lot of protein because that is what hair is made of and lacks when it is dry.

"The semen is refrigerated before use and doesn't smell. It leaves your hair looking wonderfully soft and thick."

Arizona libtard proposing Minutemen, Guardian Angels be classified as 'domestic terrorists' ~ and minimum 6-month jail sentences
Mood:  spacey

The most dangerous threat we face today is from libtard politicians...

Arizona Rep proposing legislation that will

classify patriots as "domestic terrorists"

By Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

Arizona House of Representative Kyrsten Sinema (District 15, Phoenix) is proposing legislation that would revise an Arizona criminal statute that would make felons out of patriots, and classify groups such as the Minutemen, Guardian Angels or anyone daring to voluntarily identify and report illegal activity in her state as "domestic terrorists" and worthy of a 6-month minimum stint in prison.

Sinema, who has failed to return my calls for comments about her proposed legislation, is sponsoring HB 2286, that would amend Arizona Title13, Chapter 23, section 13-2301 and adding section 13-2320 that states, in part:

"An individual or group of individuals commits domestic terrorism if the individual or group of individuals are not affiliated with a local, state or federal law enforcement entity and associate with another individual or group of individuals as an organization, group, corporation or company for the
purpose of patrolling to detect alleged illegal
activity or to individually patrol for the purpose of detecting alleged illegal activity
and if the individual or group of individuals is armed with a firearm or other weapon." (Click on "read more" above to continue article).

And to make certain that no good deeds remain unpunished, Sinema and her co-sponsors are mandating that anyone who is convicted under this revised statute spends a minimum of six-(6) months in jail, even if the court sentences the defendant to probation. The intent of this revision is an obviously transparent attempt to make criminals out U.S. citizens. If Sinema has her way, U.S. citizens concerned about the threat posed by illegal aliens, drug smugglers, and illegal border incursions and dares to
voluntarily assist law enforcement by
identifying and reporting such illegal
activity at the U.S.-Mexican border, will be
guilty of a class 5 felony, be required to spend 6 months in jail, and be further classified as a "domestic terrorist."

Sinema has a consistent track record of voting against legislation introduced in the Arizona State Legislature that fights illegal immigration, even to the extent of introducing legislation that would exclude illegal aliens -- including drug smugglers -- crossing into the U.S. from Mexico from being prosecuted under a 2005 anti-smuggling law.

Additional information is outlined in the most recent Homeland Security Weekly PODCAST.

13-2320. Domestic terrorism; classification

A. An individual or group of individuals commits domestic terrorism if the individual or group of individuals are not affiliated with a local, state or federal law enforcement entity and associate with another individual or group of individuals as an organization, group, corporation or company for the purpose of patrolling to detect alleged illegal activity or to individually patrol for the purpose of detecting alleged illegal activity and if the individual or group of individuals is armed with a firearm or other weapon.

B. Any city, town or county that suffers injury arising out of a violation of this section may maintain an action in superior court for the recovery of damages or for an injunction, or both. the court may award the successful party reasonable attorney fees.

C. If the court sentences the defendant to a term of probation, the court shall order that as an initial condition of probation the defendant be imprisoned in the county jail for a period of not less than six months. This jail term of incarceration shall not be deferred, deleted or otherwise suspended and shall commence on the date of sentencing. THis subsection does not apply to persons who are sentenced to serve a period of incarceration in the state department of corrections.

D. A violation of this section is a class 5 felony.

Kyrsten Sinema (D) is the same libtard that used ACLU border watchers and sent out a News Release on April 20, 2005, using Arizona taxpayer's money to falsely accuse Sean Hannity of a Federal crime (hopping a fence.)

Obviously, the darlin' hasn't had her property damaged or been threatened (as have the local ranchers, border patrol, and other citizens) by the precious little "undocumented immigrants" who traips accross the border to commit various felonies, besides the US Codes they violated by entering illegally. I think somebody needs to publish her HOME address so that the poor "terrorized" illegals can camp out on her lawn.
I don't see this proposal of hers making it past her wet dreams.

We've come full circle folks. Our founding fathers rebelled against an tyrannical king and parliament who wished to enslave us through taxation to pay for their wars overseas... we are now being held subject by a ruling class of imperialist state legislators and federal level congressmen/women who are convinced that they are better at making descisions for me and my family than I am. Yeah, I said it... call me a domestic terrorist.

Rush Limbaugh, Seattle Radio Ratings

NUMBER ONE

In Seattle, Rush Now Leads All News And Talk Shows

For any successful talk station, just how important is Rush Limbaugh?

In Seattle, an ultra- competitive talk radio market, new ratings results representing the all- important Fall 2006 Arbitron Ratings Survey underscore the tremendous impact of featuring the nation's number one host.

For the first time in recent memory, El Rushbo is not only fending off four competitors during his 9am - noon timeslot, he's beating every news and talk show heard anywhere in the region, liberal or conservative and regardless of the time slot.

With a staggering 116% percent surge in the key adults aged 25-54 demographic, Rush clobbered everything the Puget Sound Area had to offer, with an enormous 5.4 share of the audience.

Heard on Bonneville's newly- acquired KTTH-AM, the talk titan scored three times the audience of longtime KIRO libtalker Dave Ross, who has been struggling for some time. And Rush ran circles around the liberal- conservative team of Ken Schram and John Carlson on the once- proud KVI, beating them by a factor of four.

In addition, he more than doubled his "progressive" competition at CBS Radio's KPTK- AM.

Beyond his own results, a carryover effect was felt on KTTH for programs that precede and follow his, leading to an overall surge for the station. Meanwhile, Limbaugh's former Seattle - Tacoma outlet, KVI- AM, has been badly hurt by the loss of his program.

Amplifying the damage, the addition of local shows featuring liberals and moderates has likely alienated KVI's traditional audience. Once a ratings powerhouse, KVI now ranks fifth overall among news and talk stations in the area.

In addition to KVI's significant weakness, KTTH is troubled between 3pm and midnight, while KIRO is in very bad shape during the evenings and some midday hours. In fact, KTTH now beats KIRO overall in the 25-54 demo.

So far, an hour- long local daily show hosted by former MSNBC anchor Ron Reagan Jr has not produced ratings results for KIRO, or much of a buzz in the Emerald City.

Previously, we've mentioned Limbaugh's strong ratings results in other cities, including Boston. So far, Rush has seen a small decline in Chicago and a larger one in Portland, Oregon. But overall, he's still going strong.

Disclosure note: your Radio Equalizer has previously worked as a host at KVI, in addition to KIRO, under its outgoing ownership regime.

Dem Chairman was FOR troop surge... until Bush proposed it
Mood:  silly
Topic: Lib Loser Stories

Tough month

On Dec. 5, Newsweek magazine touted an interview with then-incoming House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Rep. Silvestre Reyes as an "exclusive." And for good reason.

"In a surprise twist in the debate over Iraq," the story began, Mr. Reyes "said he wants to see an increase of 20,000 to 30,000 U.S. troops as part of a 'stepped up effort to dismantle the militias.' "

"We have to consider the need for additional troops to be in Iraq, to take out the militias and stabilize Iraq," the Texas Democrat said to the surprise of many, "I would say 20,000 to 30,000."

Then came President Bush's expected announcement last week, virtually matching Mr. Reyes' recommendation and argument word-for-word -- albeit the president proposed only 21,500 troops.

Wouldn't you know, hours after Mr. Bush announced his proposal, Mr. Reyes told the El Paso Times that such a troop buildup was unthinkable.

"We don't have the capability to escalate even to this minimum level," he said.

The chairman's "double-talk" did not go unnoticed. Among others, Rep. Joe Wilson, South Carolina Republican and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, says such blatant "hypocrisy" undermines both national security and the war on terrorism.

Unfortunately for the new House intelligence chief, this is his second (some would argue his third) major blunder in the space of one month. When asked by Congressional Quarterly reporter Jeff Stein whether al Qaeda was a Sunni or Shi'ite organization, he answered: "Predominantly, probably Shi'ite."

As Mr. Stein wrote later: "He couldn't have been more wrong. Al Qaeda is profoundly Sunni. If a Shi'ite showed up at an al Qaeda clubhouse, they'd slice his head off and use it for a soccer ball."

The reporter added: "To me, it's like asking about Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland: Who's on what side?"

In the same interview, Mr. Stein had asked Mr. Reyes about the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

His now-infamous reply: "Hezbollah. Uh, Hezbollah? ... Why do you ask me these questions at 5 o'clock? Can I answer in Spanish? Do you speak Spanish?"

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

(story) "On December 5th, Newsweek magazine touted an interview with the incoming House Committee on Intelligence Chairman, Sylvestre Reyes as an exclusive, and for good reason. 'In a surprise twist in the debate over Iraq,' the story began, 'Mr. Reyes said that he wants to see an increase of 20,000 to 30,000 US troops,'" this is back on December 5th, ''as part of a stepped up effort to dismantle the militias. 'We have to consider the need for additional troops to be in Iraq, he said, to take out the militias, stabilize the country. I'd say 20 to 30,000 more.' Then President Bush came up with his announcement last week, virtually matching Reyes' recommendation, and wouldn't you know, hours after Bush announced the proposal, Reyes told the El Paso Times that such a troop buildup was 'unthinkable'"! Just a month and a half later he's totally changed his mind just because of a Bush idea! So we have examples of this. Vulture Politics: if Bush is for it they're against it even if they used to be for it. Here are the first two examples, October 3rd, 2004, Late Edition, Chris Dodd.

DODD October 3, 2004: Certainly I think today people realize here that -- that the number of troops we have there, given the magnitude of the problem, given the problems we're facing, probably has to be increased.

RUSH: Okay, that's Chris Dodd October 3rd, 2004. He said we gotta get more troops. But last night on PBS The Newshour with Jim Lehrer, Gwen Ifill said, "Is increasing the number of troops on the ground the best chance for success?"

DODD January 17, 2007: I don't think it is at all. The idea that further military, escalating military, involvement is going to produce the desired results will work -- I'm very much opposed it.

RUSH: Okay, so we're going to anyway play these two back-to-back, four and five back-to-back, number four is from October 3rd of 2004. The next cut, number five, is from last night.

DODD October 3, 2004: Certainly I think today people realize here that -- that the number of troops we have there, given the magnitude of the problem, given the problems we're facing, probably has to be increased.

DODD January 17, 2007: I don't think it is at all. The idea that further military, escalating military, involvement is going to produce the desired results will work -- I'm very much opposed it.

RUSH: What does this remind you of? The thing it reminds me of first and foremost is how in '98 when Clinton was talking about how Saddam was such a horrible guy and was working on WMDs and everything, every Democrat said, "We gotta get on board with this. We gotta stop this." Bush comes along and says it, and it's like they never said it. "Bush lied. People died." Up next, Joe Biden with the same thing, November 11th, 2003 on Hardball, Matthews said, "Senator, do you think we need more troops in Iraq?"

BIDEN November 11, 2003: Because we haven't won the war yet. Everybody talks about winning the peace. We haven't won the war yet. There's a real counterinsurgency out there. It's genuine. It's made up of forces. It is more than just outside forces, more than Al-Qaeda, and we have to stamp it out, and we need more forces. There are not enough forces there.

RUSH: Yesterday, the same man had a press conference on Capitol Hill.

BIDEN January 17, 2007: Mr. President, do not send more troops! It would have the exact opposite impact you intend.

RUSH: Okay, let's place these back-to-back, first number six, then number seven: Biden from November of 2003 and then yesterday.

BIDEN January 17, 2007: Mr. President, do not send more troops! It would have the exact opposite impact you intend.

RUSH: Why would anybody trust them? These people are not interested in what works. In fact, they're probably being more honest back in their previous statements than they are today. It's just "oppose Bush, oppose Bush, oppose Bush." Finally, Mrs. Clinton. She said this December 7th, 2003 with George Stephanopoulos on his Sunday morning program.

HILLARY December 7, 2003: What I have said is that I do think we need more troops.

RUSH: Yesterday, she unveiled her big plan at a press conference on Capitol Hill.

HILLARY January 17, 2007: Rather than escalation of US troops -- which I do not believe will contribute to long-term success in Iraq -- we should be begin a phased redeployment of US troops as a way to put pressure on the Iraqi government to take responsibility to its own security and future.

RUSH: Okay, now we do the same back-to-back treatment with Hillary Rodham Clinton December 7th, 2003 -- just over three years ago -- and then yesterday.

HILLARY December 7, 2003: What I have said is that I do think we need more troops.

HILLARY January 17, 2007: Rather than escalation of US troops -- which I do not believe will contribute to long-term success in Iraq -- we should be begin a phased redeployment of US troops as a way to put pressure on the Iraqi government to take responsibility to its own security and future.

RUSH: Do you realize if it weren't for us -- me -- here in the new media, you would never hear these comparisons.? Media knows Hillary said this, and Biden, and Dodd, and Reyes. They said these on media shows! They could go back to their archives and ask these people why they're changing their minds. They don't dare. We do. We have no fear, because truth is our objective here!

Viagra May Decrease Ability to Smell

NEW YORK -- Higher doses of Viagra (sildenafil) may impair the ability to smell, which is possibly related to an increase in nasal congestion, German researchers report in The Journal of Urology.

A team led by Dr. V. Gudziol at the University of Dresden Medical School studied 20 healthy, young male volunteers who received Viagra, at a 50- or 100-mg dose, or inactive "placebo" and then were exposed to an odor-dispensing device.

The researchers tested the subjects' odor detection threshold, odor discrimination and odor identification ability.

They found that the 100-mg dose caused a drop in smelling or "olfactory" ability, specifically odor discrimination and odor threshold, compared with placebo. The 50-mg dose, by contrast, had no effect on olfactory function.

"In our subjects, the most likely reason for impaired...olfactory function was nasal congestion" brought on by Viagra, the authors write. They note that, while it was not evaluated in this study, previous reports have linked Viagra with a drop in nasal airflow.
